Artist Bio

A lifelong resident of Minnesota, and Plymouth artist, Colleen began her journey as artist with finger-painting in kindergarten, moving on to spending much of her free time filling sketchbooks with pencil and charcoal drawings as a grade-schooler, and branched out into oil painting in High School. She studied Illustration at the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, where she continued to develop artistic skills as a fine artist and attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts. From there, she entered the corporate world, where she spent many years working various graphic art jobs, while continuing fine art practice in her spare time.

In 2017 Colleen made the decision to quit her corporate job and pursue an art career full time. Being an artist is her calling in life, and she’s continually learning, finding new paths to explore, and pushing her creative limits.

Artist Statement

My goal as an artist is to create a visual place of refuge. Whether immersing myself in nature to create pieces on site or working larger pieces in my studio, I conjure up spaces that are free of the noise of everyday life and remind the viewer of the magic and mystery that is all around us. My technique utilizes principles of traditional illustration, plein air drawing, and an intuitive sense of composition honed by decades working as a graphic artist, These drawings are moments in time, like faded memories retaining only the most important details, monochromatic, serene, and a little mysterious.
